Do Not Be Anxious
I remember my first day of college. New people, new city, new routine—it was exciting but a bit overwhelming as well. During the opening service in the chapel, the campus pastor prayed this prayer: “Lord God, You have called Your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go but only that Your hand is leading us and Your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ, our Lord” (LSB, p. 311). That’s exactly how I was feeling! The prayer echoes our Lord’s words in Matthew. We are anxious about our lives. We experience trials and temptations. But there’s no need to be anxious. The Lord is taking care of us. Look at the birds of the air. He provides for them; yet how much more does our Father love us? He loves us so much more that He gave us His Son! We trust in God. So do not be anxious, dear Christian. The Lord has promised to provide, and He will keep His promise.
Lord God, grant us peace and comfort when we are anxious, for You have promised to care for us. Amen.
